It’s Friday, and I am clearing out my backlog interesting tidbits of credit card news.

$10 Cash Card From Costco For Using Amex To Pay A Wireless Bill

Register at this link to get a $10 Costco card when you set up your Amex to automatically pay your wireless bill.    Since I already pay my T-Mobile bill automatically with my business platinum Amex, this is free money for me.    You have until the end of the year.

What if you are not a Costco member?   Who cares!  It is a little known fact that you can use a Costco gift card to enter a Costco.  This is good to know if you only go there occasionally.   Also, federal law requires them to allow anyone, member or not, to access their pharmacy.

Up to $50 Back, This Time From MasterCard and American Airlines

Again, registration is required.     I don’t imagine that anyone will go out and buy an American Airlines ticket because of this offer, but if you are going to fly them anyways, you will get $10.   When you book air and hotel or a rental car with your MasterCard, you get $25.    Book all three, and you are looking at $50.    I could see this working out really well if you are a business traveler and you really don’t care where you book your air, hotel, and rental car, as long as you can submit a receipt for reimbursement.

Credit Cards Make You Fat?

Here is one that I couldn’t make up if I tried.    Via The Consumerist, here is a scholarly journal article claiming that since credit cards increase impulse purchases of food, then it follows that people eat more when they pay with a credit card.   I can’t see any flaw with that logic as it pertains to most people and their purchasing behavior.   Since I make all of my food purchases with a credit card, this does not apply to me, as I have no more compulsion to purchase something with a credit card than I do with cash.

Digest that idea this weekend!
