20The Citi® mtvU™ Platinum Select® Card is a rewards credit card specifically designed to meet the needs of students. The card offers bonus points for cardmembers who pay their bill on time, stay under their credit limit, and for those that get good grades. Being a cardmember gives you special access to exclusive mtvU experiences like free concert tickets, tickets to the mtvU Woodie Awards or VIP status at mtvU’s Spring Break. In addition, the card offers a special introductory rate on purchases and this card does not have an annual fee. Here are some of the card features:
- Up to 2000 reward points twice a year for having a good GPA
- 10% discount on music and entertainment products at shop.mtv.comAccess to exclusive mtvU experiences like free concert tickets, tickets to the mtvU Woodie Awards or VIP status at mtvU’s Spring Break
Rates and Offers
This student credit card offers a special introductory rate of 0% for the first 7 months you have the card. This applies to all purchases. After that the rate changes to 12.99%, 17.99%, 20.99%, or 21.99% and the rate you receive is based on your creditworthiness. The APR for cash advances is 25.24% and the penalty APR is 29.99%. The penalty rate can be applied if you are late on a payment or if you have a payment that is returned. If your APRs are increased for either of these reasons, the Penalty APR will no longer apply to existing balances on your account if you make the next six consecutive minimum payments when due. However, the Penalty APR may apply to new transactions indefinitely.
Rewards Program
This card offers a nice rewards programs for cardmembers and is part of the Citi ThankYou® Points Rewards Program. You will earn five ThankYou Points for every dollar you spend on purchases at book stores, record stores, restaurants, including fast food restaurants, motion picture theaters, and video entertainment rental stores . You will also earn one ThankYou Point for every dollar you spend on all your other purchases. You will earn 25 bonus ThankYou Points at the end of every billing cycle during which you make your Minimum Payment or more on time, and at the end of which you are not over your credit limit. You can earn bonus ThankYou Points for achieving good grades at college. ThankYou Points can be earned by submitting proof of grades up to two times per calendar year. ThankYou Points will be awarded as follows:
- 2.50 – 2.99 = 250 Thank You Points
- 3.00 – 3.49 = 500 Thank You Points
- 3.50 – 3.99 = 750 Thank You Points
- 4.0 = 2,000 Thank You Points
You can earn up to 75,000 ThankYou Points during any calendar year (eligible purchases appearing on your January – December billing statements). You may only earn ThankYou Points on your Card Account as long as it is open and current. ThankYou Points expire five years from the end of the month in which they are earned unless ThankYou Rewards is terminated.

As with any credit card, you should be aware of the card fee. The table below highlights some of those fees, but to see a complete list you should refer to the card terms and conditions. You can apply for the card at anytime by completing an online application.
